About PocketPairings

Why it exists

If you have played a bigger local tournament, you know the moment: pairings go up on one sheet of paper, everyone crowds around it at once, and then the whole room pushes back through itself to find their table. At stores without a printer it was the same story, only around a screen instead of a wall.

I wanted to just look at my phone and see where I had to sit. PocketPairings started there: the pairings, standings and results of an event, live, in your pocket — so rounds start sooner and events run smoother for everyone in the room.

Who makes it

PocketPairings is made by José Pedro Valentim Oliveira under Olivra Studio. I have been an active Pokémon player since 2016, and I build this for the community I play in.

Who it is for

Players and organizers, because that is the connection that matters on the day of an event. Players follow their pairings, standings and results, submit decklists and keep track of their own history. Organizers keep running their events in TOM, the official Play! Pokémon tournament software, while the PocketPairings desktop app publishes each round the moment it is paired.

The official tools keep everything offline, on the organizer's laptop. Putting that same information online was the logical next step. PocketPairings only shows what TOM and the organizer publish — the organizer remains the official source for every pairing and result.

Thank you

TCGShop was the original test league: the store where PocketPairings was tried out, event after event, and where much of the early feedback came from.

And Tom Slikboer, Jimmy Wuyts, Matthew Houtput, Vinnie Schelfhaut and Gilles Heyndrickx, for always being the rubber ducks I could send every idea to.
